East-Frisian Regional Museum in Emden

After winning the competition in a pan-European process, we were commissioned to convert the regional museum in Emden.

The main entrance was moved to the street “Brückstrasse” and equipped with a large foyer in the ground floor, offering information for incoming visitors. The interior construction of the protected building was demolished and reconstructed offering an elevator and new staircases.

For the benefit of a clear and open room concept the inner spatial relations were redesigned. The eastern building wing received an additional floor now housing an exhibition space without windows.

The physical features of the existing façade was improved, a second interior layer of windows was added. The entire housing technology of the museum was reconstructed and an air-conditioning system has been installed.

Besides the architectural design, the exhibition design was conceptualized and realized in close cooperation with Iglhaut + Partner/Berlin.
